The Lowes Laugh

Hello, Third Trimester.

It's seriously hard to believe that in 15 weeks (hopefully, less!) we'll have a precious boy, and be a family a four! God is so incredibly good! This pregnancy has gone by so much more quickly than with Lucy, partly because I'm not in shock that I'm having a baby (....this one somewhat more "planned" not so much a honeymoon blessing like Lucy), and I have a very busy 2 year old to chase. With all that said, I haven't done a grand job of documenting my bump, nor fun little tidbits about this pregnancy. I have seen several pregnancy updates on other blogs, so I think for all due purposes...I'll just copy and paste. :)

How far along?

25 weeks and some change.

Sleep:

Ehh. Baby Boy sits low...very low. Therefore, I have MANY potty breaks during the night. Other than that, I sleep like a rock (a rock that wears ear plugs).

Best moment this week:

Healthy check-up at the doctor! Hooray!

Movement:

Oh yes. Big boy is a jabber, and perhaps a karate champ in the making?

Food cravings:

Mustard with cucumbers and cherry tomatoes. Oh.MY.word...delish.

Pickles (classic, right?)

Hummus (....totally NOT abnormal).

Oranges (like the XXL size they sell at Harris Teeter...I may or may not eat more than 2 a day).

Shredded (has to be shredded) iceberg lettuce (I'm very well aware of the lack of nutritional value in iceberg, but it just tastes so incredibly good).

Gender: Baby Boy.

Labor Signs:

Nah. Just aches and pains from big boy sitting on nerve or growing spells.

What I miss:

Nothing quite yet. Soaking it all in...what a sweet gift!

What I am looking forward to:

Lucy meeting her baby brother. She talks to him a lot, and asks lots of questions about how he will relieve himself (i.e. pee, etc.) after he is born. You could see where our conversations could lead.

Weekly Wisdom:

It's okay for Lucy to watch cartoons or a movie...I don't have to be supermom. :)

Asheville.

With Jeff's new job, he travels much more and most of his customers fall between Asheville and Charleston. :) This past week we were able to tag along for a few days and spend some time in Asheville. It was such a nice time to not have to worry about the house (or any projects and cleaning associated with moving), and just relax as a family. Lucy and I spent our days walking around downtown, popping into some adorable shops, and chowing down on some fabulous food. :) Our hotel was smack dab downtown, so it was nice that all we had to do was pop Lucy in the stroller and cruise through town. Jeff worked during the days, and joined us in the afternoons. We had a great time! Here's a sneak peek into our adventure...

On a side note: Lots of our yummy food (and shenanigans) went undocumented, but the meal that truly counted (breakfast at Tupelo Honey...our favorite in Asheville) had to be captured on camera. Until next time, laugh often. :)

We stopped at Mast General Store and picked up some yummy goodies for big girl. She picked a red and purple sucker...and continuously asked to bite it...no Lucy...licks only.

We played in Biltmore square on Broadway for a good bit. She loved looking at the statues and fountains.

My favorite part of staying in a hotel....NOT worrying about dropping my clothes anywhere. Hooray for that. :)

For Christmas, Lucy received a Barbie Jeep from GG and Papa and has loved taking it for a few spins in the neighborhood. Looking oh so G-L-A-M...O-R-O-U-S (sung in your best Fergie impression of course.)

Making sure all is good under the hood.

The first of many driving lessons. "Lucy, two hands on the wheel." "Don't play with the buttons while you're driving." "Keep your eyes on the road." I could hear this in, oh, 14 years from now. Help me, Jesus!

She decided she wanted to deliver the mail. Duh.

Lucy has been begging to make cupcakes with sprinkles. Normally, we'd pull out the flour and sugar and whip some up, but naturally when you think of cupcakes with sprinkles...you think FUNFETTI. So, Funfetti it was.

And yes, this was devoured before dinner. Mom of the Year Award?

Jeff was working from home, and Lucy decided to whip out her laptop too. She said she needed to type some emails. Go figure.

In the madness of decluttering, caulking, and general house updates, at the end of the day our little family has opted to have picnics camped out on our bed watching cartoons. :) It's really just so fun...Lucy loves it! Last week, I made pasta for dinner. Both Lucy and Jeff really enjoy pasta, although Lucy typically likes her with just a little butter or pepper and Jeff is a sauce man. We had some alfredo, spinach and chicken so I whipped together some spinach chicken alfredo for Jeff.

As we were eating, I noticed Lucy was eating some of her pasta, but also keeping an eye on her daddy's pasta too. Apparently, his pasta looked quite enticing and appealing. After giving his pasta the eye several times, Lucy asked, "Daddy, you share with me?" Of course Jeff would share! He didn't do it begrudgingly, or out of obligation, but did so out of the overflow of his love for Lucy, he freely gave whatever was his.

Lucy took one bite of her daddy's pasta, and immediately (and persistently...I might add) pushed her plate away, and began to exclusively off of her daddy's plate. She gobbled it up!

mmm. so good.

As I observed our little family dinner, I heard our Father whisper, "Just like me." What a sweet picture. In my flesh, in my day to day, all the hustle and bustle of daily life, often I find I settle for the "plain pasta" or what I have been chewing on or the place that I have been in, in my spirit. But, I have found that when I taste of what my Father has for me, and feast off of His plate, my appetite is simply insatiable! I can't get enough! Plain pasta, the ordinary, will simply not do, I desire whatever the Father has for me.

I was reminded of Psalm 34:8:

"O Taste and See that the Lord is GOOD.

How blessed is the man who trusts in Him."

I love this! When we taste and see the GOODNESS God, we in turn have a clearer picture of His character and freely trust and surrender our spirits to Him...we will be truly blessed scripture says!

Jesus, help me not settle for the ordinary, but feast off my Father's plate. Give me an insatiable desire for You and the things of Your kingdom. Lord, give me YOUR desires! Praying for you sweet friends, that you would taste of the Goodness of God today. Until next time, laugh often. :)

Blog Slacker.

I know, I know....such a slacker. It seems as though the end of 2011 sped by, and I had little time between holiday fun and chasing a two year old, that blogging was at the bottom of my to-do list. With all that said, I'm not going to write a crazy long post detailing everything from the past couple of months, but I would LOVE to share what the Lord has been doing! He has been so incredibly faithful and we PRAISE Him for His goodness.

I will be the first to admit that 2011 ended, much better than it began. I praise the Lord for the challenges that were sent our way, and see the goodness and best timing in God's providence. The year began with a miscarriage and restlessness in a job, and ended with expecting a precious baby boy and the provision of the Lord in a new job for my sweet husband!

So to recap friends....

Jeff got a new job. :) He LOVES it. I'm so proud of him, his work ethic and integrity in which he does business. With that said, he travels much more, so Lucy and I get lots of quality time together...which with a 2 1/2 year old is both the best, and incredibly exhausting...but wouldn't trade it!

We spent a week celebrating Thanksgiving in Akron, Ohio with Jeff's family. We had a great time hiking, eating great food, and visiting with Jeff's sister, brother-in-law, and Lucy's favorite cousin...DIMA.

Not sure why I haven't figured out looking at a camera is the thing to do.

At the beginning of December, I had my college friends over for a brunch. It was great to catch-up! Seeing them makes me miss them more!

We also found out we were having a little boy! Hooray. :) Healthy, and very active. 22 weeks and counting! His profile looks just like Lucy...we shall see!

My brother got engaged to a fabulous young lady, and I'm so excited to have her as a sister. She's really that great, and such an answer to prayer.

Had such fun celebrating Christ's birth with family...making fun crafts, eating too much good food, caroling, and playing with cousins. We got NO pictures of Christmas morning, but tons of video. I'll try and post Lucy's reaction to her dollhouse...excited, I think yes.

New Years was very low key. I must be on a steady incline with aging because at 26...I just couldn't keep my eyes open. :) However, we did enjoy dinner with my brother and his fiancee and then played Just Dance on the Wii with Jeff's family. It was good times all around.

And here we are, 2012. Still chasing a two and half year old, and in the process of putting our house on the marker...we are MOVING. Over the past couple of months, coupled with Jeff's travel, we have had a sensing and clear direction that Elon would be our next home. So although it is bittersweet leaving Raleigh and our friends here, we are thrilled about the Lord's activity and what HE is doing.

On a side note...if you know of anyone in the Holly Springs area looking to purchase a home...send them our way. :)

Trick-or-Treat...kind of.

This year, we spent Halloween in Elon! Jeff was out of town on business for the week, and had left earlier in the day. Once we dropped him off at the airport, we made a b-line for Old Navy to pick Lucy's costume. In true "Last-Minute-Lyndsey" fashion, I waited till the day of to nab a costume for Lucy. I justify my procrastination in this because I have several years of experience that says if you wait till the last minute, you'll probably get the best buy....not always true, but it makes me feel much better about tardiness. In this case, I did snatch a costume at Old Navy for $4.97...can't beat that. The catch.... the ONLY costume left was a 2T, and it was dragon. Lucy was quite excited about her costume, up until it was time to actually put it on...she refused...and I wasn't going to fight it. She was in festive colors, with a cute Halloween bow in her hair, so it wasn't all bad!

We ventured out visiting family, and Lucy loved putting her treats in her pumpkin. I wanted her to enjoy SOME of her treats...it's Halloween, but really didn't want her going into a sugar coma, so I TRIED my best for her not to inhale every piece of candy in her bucket. P.S. Lucy has a major sweet tooth. Halloween=Lucy's new favorite holiday. We had a great time visiting with family!

Lucy finally settled in for bed well past her bedtime, and although she went to bed late she woke up bright and early...ready for more candy. Great. The next day was a real treat. I found myself on multiple occasions asking Jesus for grace to parent because I was worn thin and my patience with a tired, sugar crash little girl was nearly gone (it was officially gone by the end of the day). But, in Jesus' goodness, He redeems, and we woke up the following day with a clean slate and new joys He brings in the morning!

We spent the remainder of the past couple of weeks having treasure hunts outside, collecting leaves, painting, baking, and playing around the house! It's hard to believe Thanksgiving is close to a week away. We are so blessed! Until next time, laugh often. :)

It's been quite a while since the Lowes have done a "favorites" post, so I thought I'd share something the Lowes (or mainly me) are loving these days, and you can share your favorites as well! We love to try new things...especially, when it comes with great recommendations. Until next time, laugh often. :)

It should not go unmentioned that I love HUMMUS, mildly (or wildly might be the better word) obsessed. This is delicious! I love the mixture of the zesty cilantro and roasted red pepper. This is a keeper in our fridge!

I also LOVE the tahini free hummus as well. I didn't even know it lacked tahini, until I closely read the label. Are my eyes failing me at 26? I would say it clearly states the obvious.

This junk is good. The majority of the time in a mixed nut can, I sift for the cashews, pecans and almonds. No sifting required in this can!

Lucy LOVES this! We make pizza and cheese toast with it...and it is definitely a hit!

Seriously, my house can be a total wreck, but if my counters in my kitchen are clean, all seems right in the world. Weird, right? I love this kitchen cleaner because it doesn't leave streaks on the counter and it really gets the "guck" off the counters. I probably use it at least twice a day, and that is low ballin' it. :)

Although watermelon season is officially over (which in the Lowe household could be quite a travesty), we have loved having fresh vegetables from the Farmers' Market, and apple season is quickly approaching! Hooray! Oh Honeycrisps, I will eat my weight in you this fall. :)

My brother got me hooked on this cd! There's something about old hymns that have such depth. I have loved meditating on the words. This has been such a blessing!

ALL of it's good. And, that's all I can say about that. (Check out, Bless the Lord and We Have Come!)

We not members at a gym, but outside of our daily walks, I really enjoy pilates. This has by far been one of the best dvds I've purchased. You definitely sweat!

This the other dvd I love. I typically would alternate these dvds. Besides the video kicking my butt (no pun intended, well maybe a little), the instructor has a great Australian accent. :)

Splits and Such.

I've never been pegged as the athletic type (ask my dad, brother, or mom...seriously!), and although I'm not horribly uncoordinated, I've never been one to be able to pick up a sport and just do it. I did love taking dance, gymnastics, and a season of golf (thanks for encouraging me dad!) but I guess I just loved school more. :) Weird, right? I have no idea what Lucy will want/choose to do, and I have not a clue what kind of student she'll be (although, at this point I could make some pretty good guesses), but as a two year old, she is really into flips and splits. Seriously, as a 25 year old (almost 26), if I tried some of her moves, a helicopter may just have to airlift me out of our backyard. Lately, Lucy has been doing "splits" and likes to see how far she can go down. She'll be mid-dance move and break out a split. I'd definitely say she spices things up with it!

She also loves playing in her car. I love the conversations we have! Most of the times they center around the
groceries she'll be getting at the store...biscuits are ALWAYS included.

If it seems as though Lucy runs around in her panties and no shirt most days, that would be an accurate assumption.
It's been so hot, we're potty training and you can't see our neighbors through the woods, so it really sounds like a win/win. :)

Garment of Praise.

It has not gone undocumented that Lucy loves to dance! Recently, anytime that we turn on our worship music in the morning, Lucy wants to put on the same outfit...a yellow tutu and flower hat. I've joked with Jeff that this just must be her garment of praise.

In all honesty, when she puts on this outfit of sorts, her countenance changes, and it seems as there's a release in her little spirit. She moves, bounces and runs around the room and there's a freedom that comes on her to just be and dance.

As I've watched Lucy dance, the Lord reminded me of the scripture in Isaiah 61 (starting with verse 1)...

¹ The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,

because the LORD has anointed me

to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
   to proclaim freedom for the captives
   and release from darkness for the prisoners,^[a]
^{² to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor}   and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
³ and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
   instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
   instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
   instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
   a planting of the LORD
   for the display of his splendor.

I was struck specifically at verse 3, where it states that the Lord will trade our heaviness for a garment of praise. Through the ebbs and flows of my life, I've found there will always be trials, and seasons of heaviness where my spirit just seems burden and weighty; it's like my spirit was vacationing in Seattle...it was just gray.

I remember specifically a time at the beginning of this year when the Lowes were walking through some weighty and unexpected circumstances. Honestly, it was no fun...not at all. But, I remember very clearly, one morning, I woke up earlier than normal and I heard the still, small voice of the Lord whisper, "Praise ME." And although, I didn't really feel like I could, or even wanted to sing or praise, I walked down to our worship/playroom and put on Kim Walker's "Sing My Love." I didn't do a lot of singing, but I just whispered Jesus' name over and over. Scripture clearly states that by simply uttering the name of the Lord mountains tremble and demons flee...there's power in the name of Jesus, and His name alone can combat the spirit of heaviness!

Amidst heaviness, my praise began to lift my spirit. Through my praise, and recognizing and declaring who God IS, His character what He CAN and WILL do for His people, I allowed the Lord to be the lifter of my head, and carrier of my yoke. My spirit that had once been heavy, was now lightened, and a new freedom came to my spirit allowing the Lord to move and work in greater measure. The Lord had traded my heaviness for a garment of praise.

Is it always easy, or even fun to praise Jesus in and through a storm? No way. But, I believe when we wrap ourselves up in praise to our Maker, we hear and see more clearly what the Lord is saying, doing, and what He wants to do in us in the trial. My pastor growing up has said, "You're either headed into a storm, in a storm, or coming out of a storm." It's so true, and I believe the Lord would say...Praise ME in it all! Lord, give us a heart to praise you even in trials and weighty circumstances. Let us see our storms as opportunities for praise!

I praise the Lord for using Lucy to remind me of such truths! Until next time, laugh often. :)

Farm Days (Again).

Last Friday, some aunts, cousins, my dad, mom, brother and Jeff packed up and headed to Clinton for the day. We had a great time visiting with the Bass' and shopping around cute downtown Clinton.

Birthday Recap.

Better late than never, right? We had a grand time celebrating Lucy's birthday (nearly a month ago..oops.), and it was very apparent Lucy thoroughly enjoyed (and soaked in) every minute of her special day. I mean, she did wake up (early...might I add..did she not get the memo to sleep in on your birthday?) singing "Happy Birthday to Lucy" and immediately asked to get out of bed and put on her birthday hat. She really just acted excited the whole day...I just loved that! On her birthday, we celebrated throughout the day (including a celebratory visit to the doctor...Lucy didn't catch the excitement during this part of the day!) And later, we met up with the grandparents and UT for a birthday dinner at Jason's Deli.

On Saturday, we celebrated with extended family in Elon and had a watermelon and cookies party...Lucy loves them both! She had a ball opening gifts, and playing with cousins. It's such a blessing that both of our families just LOVE Lucy, and it is awesome to see her love on her sweet family. As people left, they snagged some granola as favor (another of Lucy's favorites). Thank you sweet family for celebrating with us, YOU are such a blessing! Until next time, laugh often. :)

Been a while? I think yes. The Lowes have been super busy this summer, not to mention I now have a very active 2 year old on my hands. Yes, two years old. Crazy? Definitely. We celebrated Lucy's birthday last week with family on Wednesday and then a party on Saturday for all of our extended family in Elon (pictures in another post to follow!). You could definitely tell she was excited on her birthday...she woke up singing "Happy Birthday to YOU" and then immediately asked to put on her birthday hat. She was thoroughly thrilled (minus the doctor's visit) ALL day! We have a very healthy two year old on our hands! Praise the Lord!

Lucy LOVES life! She wakes up with a smile on her face, a minus a couple of meltdowns during the day, she goes to bed with a smile on her face as well. She LOVE LOVE LOVES to dance---anything with a rhythm she moves her little feet, and shakes her hips--a girl after my own heart! She still loves Chick-fi-lia and cookies, but eats well most of the time. She enjoys broccoli, cucumbers, strawberries, cantaloupe, watermelon, squash/zucchini, hotdogs...and fruit snacks (she can be mildly obsessed). She loves to take walks outside, playing in water (puddles, pools, the ocean...you name...she loves it!). Lucy loves to snuggle/cuddle (as she calls it)...and have her little cheek right up to mine, well, it's simply heaven! She's recently gotten into "racing" and loves to run with someone. Can we say track scholarship?

She is definitely a two year old...with all that it encompasses. She has her MY, MINE, NO, DON'T WANT TO, moments, but she has such a sweet spirit, and loves people so well. We've asked the Lord to just help us foster an environment where her relentless spirit would take her deeper, quicker in Him. She is such a blessing!
